In a quiet village in Upper Egypt, Mina faced a tough reality. He had not been able to find a job since finishing school. This contributed to some strained relationships, especially with his grandfather, which left him feeling isolated and uncertain about his future. Mina was unmoored, unable to find the prospects to start his adult life.
Mina was intent on carving out a better path for his future and reconnecting with loved ones. Although he couldn’t afford a higher education, Mina sought out alternative ways to gain marketable skills.
Mina enrolled in a HANDS-sponsored vocational training program, run by one of our partners, Think and Do. There, he discovered a new career path—learning how to cut hair. Mina returned from the training not only with his newfound hairstyling skills, but also with a full toolkit necessary to start his career.
Hairstyling was a skill that would help him make a living and kickstart his journey to familial reconciliation. Mina’s mother soon called our partners with the good news: “After his return, he visited his grandfather, reconciled with him, and even cut his hair. Mina returned as a completely different person. Thank you for everything, and may God reward your efforts.”
This was more than just a haircut; it was a fresh start, a moment of healing, and a sign of the transformation taking place in Mina’s life. Today, Mina has opened his own barbershop, the fruit of his hard work, determination, and the new future he’s building for himself.
