Contract Opportunity Announcement (for Egypt-based applicants only):

Arabic Conversation Instructors for Non-native Speakers

Hands Along the Nile Development Services, Inc. (HANDS) is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting community development in Egypt and promoting intercultural cooperation and understanding between the U.S. and Egypt (MENA region).

HANDS is seeking qualified, Egypt-based instructors of Arabic (Egyptian dialect) to support the Arabic language study of non-native speaking Arabic students through online conversational classes. The work schedule is flexible and could range from teaching part-time (such as one to four classes per day) to full-time (six classes per day). Each class is 45 minutes long. Teaching assignments will be scheduled on an as needed basis, depending on student demand and interest and instructor’s availability. The instructor will be responsible for organizing content of lessons, for which they should submit plans for approval by HANDS staff prior to start of the online classes. Instructors will receive guidance from HANDS regarding class structure, proposed topics, etc. Classes should be organized to facilitate improvement of students’ conversational Arabic skills, both understanding and speaking the language. Details will be discussed with candidates selected for interviews.

  • University degree (Arabic Language, Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, English Language, and other relevant degrees)
  • At least one year of experience teaching Arabic to foreigners; online teaching experience is a plus, though not required
  • English language proficiency
  • Access to high-speed Internet connection and computer (or tablet)
  • Availability to teach in a flexible-scheduling structure
  • Good communication and intercultural skills; interest in building connections with people from other cultures

Compensation: $11 per class. Internet upgrade stipend may possibly be available to select qualified individuals. This will be discussed with short-listed candidates.

Important. Please read carefully: All assignments are dependent on student demand. This is a new program, for which we are building the student base. It is necessary for applicants to accept the flexible arrangement terms, meaning that HANDS cannot guarantee a set minimum number of classes in advance, as that will depend on the number of students who apply for the program. For the time-being, the assignments for teachers will be on as as-needed basis. HANDS will discuss with the selected instructors the possible start date, availability, scheduling practices, etc.

How to apply: If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out the application form (click to open the link) and submit your resume, with two letters of recommendations. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2021. Only well-qualified candidates will be contacted.
