Nolan Dooling is a Senior at American University’s School of International Service with a focus in global inequality and development within Sub-Saharan Africa. Nolan is interning at Hands Along the Nile for the summer. Last fall, Nolan studied and interned in Nairobi, Kenya, working in Kenyan civil society to combat corruption and taking courses on Africa specific development issues. Through his academic coursework and real life experience in African development, Nolan has gained a deep understanding of the challenges posed to African nations, from everyday, basic living challenges to large scale, governmental dilemmas. Nolan’s academic journey has given him the opportunity to research African development which include backsliding of democratic standards and its effect on development, specifically within the Liberian and South African context. Through this summer with HANDS, Nolan is excited to further his fight for the development of the African continent and the improving of the daily lives of the Egyptian people.
