In a small Egyptian town, Iman lived a quiet life with her teenage son. She kept to herself, with few social connections and limited opportunities. Like many women in her community, Iman struggled to find ways to support her family. Work was hard to come by, and she wasn’t sure where to turn.

But she was determined to do something—both for herself and for her son.

When Iman heard about a local HANDS-sponsored sewing course, she made a bold choice: she signed up. Her 15-year-old son came along too, eager to learn a new skill and support his mother.

Iman and her son dove into the training together. Though shy at first, they each quickly picked up the craft. Her son, bright and focused, mastered the basics in no time. Iman began buying fabric and creating her own designs, pouring care and creativity into each piece.

During one session, the instructor accompanied Iman to purchase a sewing machine, oil, and materials. It was a small but powerful moment—one that marked the beginning of something new.

Not long after, Iman sent a message to our local partners. She wrote: “I have started a project [producing bed linen] with my son. Thank God. I distribute to my relatives and the community, and I thank God who encouraged me to start a new project that helps me cover my living expenses.”

This was more than a new hobby—it was a lifeline. A step toward independence. A source of pride.

Today, Iman and her son are working together to run their small business, making and selling bed linens to people in their community. They’ve not only found a way to earn an income, but also a new sense of purpose and connection.

Your generosity helped make this transformation possible. Because of your support, Iman had access to training, tools, and encouragement—exactly what she needed to take the first step. And now, she’s building a better future for herself and her son.

Thank you for standing with women like Iman and supporting families across Egypt. Together, we’re creating opportunities that last.
