HANDS Hosts a Benefit Dinner in Washington, DC

On October 16th, HANDS hosted a benefit dinner at The Mansion at Meridian Hill in Washington, D.C. to raise funds for our projects in Egypt. This was the second such event; the first was hosted  in New York City last fall.

This year, HANDS was pleased to have as a guest speaker H. E. Ambassador Mohamed Tawfik, Egyptian Ambassador to the U.S. Our incoming board chairman, Dr. Graeme Bannerman, led a thoughtful public discussion with the Ambassador. Among the topics they discussed were current events in Egypt and relations between Egypt and the United States.

The evening included a silent auction, organized by a team of dedicated HANDS volunteers. HANDS received contributions for the auction from over 60 local businesses. Items available for bidding ranged from gift certificates for local restaurants to Egyptian crafts, an autographed football, spa packages, wine tastings and a variety of other items. Our guests were encouraged to write in their bids for the auction items while enjoying refreshments and listening to Oud music performed live by a local musician.

HANDS is very thankful to all our DC-area friends who came out to support our work and to our volunteers, who helped make the evening a success.  We are also grateful to our board members who helped organize the event and to all those who sponsored tables, especially Apache and the Miles & Stockbridge Foundation.  The evening included a silent auction, organized by a team of dedicated HANDS volunteers.
